Families around the Denver, Boulder, and Lafayette area are welcome at James Martin, DMD. We offer both general and cosmetic treatments for each individual and will take the time to get to know you and your needs.

Our Office Makes Caring for Your Family Easier
No one likes calling multiple offices and making individual appointments and then having to drive all over town for your whole family to get treatment. Instead, you can schedule your entire family at our dental practice and know that you are receiving specialized and precise family dentistry care.
We have experience in everything from pediatric care to geriatric dentistry, so your whole family is covered.
Comprehensive Dentistry for Every Need
We offer treatments for every dental need, meaning that we can treat aging teeth with things like implants and teeth whitening, and we can treat new teeth with dental sealants and our CariFree® mouthwashes and toothpaste.
We won’t have to refer you out to a different dentist if you want to improve the cosmetics of your smile or suddenly have a dental emergency. You can receive all that and more from James Martin, DMD.
Our Patients’ Experiences with Dr. Martin
“Great staff and first rate dental care. Dr. Martin and his staff are extremely professional and very patient focused. Intake is the most thorough I have experienced. Recently had a cracked crown replaced. Overall process was quick, easy and everything fit well the first time. Have recently had several bad experiences with other dentists. Dr. Martin has been a great find.”

Preventive Dentistry for the Family
When the whole family stays consistent with preventive visits, it becomes easier to maintain strong, comfortable smiles at every stage of life. Preventive dentistry partnered with family care often results in:
- Fewer Cavities and Dental Problems | Routine cleanings remove plaque and buildup that brushing alone cannot reach. This helps reduce the risk of cavities, gum disease, and infections for both children and adults.
- Early Detection for All Ages | Regular exams allow us to find small concerns before they become painful or expensive to treat. This is especially helpful for growing children, busy adults, and older family members whose dental needs may change over time.
- Protection for Past Dental Work | Fillings, crowns, implants, and other restorations last longer when they are checked and cleaned regularly. Preventive care helps every member of your family protect the dental work they already have.
- Healthier Habits at Home | When families come in together for preventive visits, it reinforces good brushing, flossing, and nutrition habits. Children often learn best by seeing parents and siblings take care of their smiles, too.
- Lower Risk of Future Treatment | Staying consistent with preventive dentistry can help reduce the need for more complex procedures later. Keeping teeth and gums healthy now makes it easier for your whole family to enjoy comfortable, confident smiles for years to come.
At What Age Do You Start Doing Cleanings?
We recommend that as soon as children cut their first tooth, they come in for a visit and have their teeth cleaned. We will keep cleanings short for children. Having them be comfortable at the dentist early on is essential for their long-term oral health success.
Getting them comfortable with the dentist helps them cooperate and even enjoy going to the dentist every 6 months for their checkups. Starting early can prevent fear of the dentist or anxiety around tooth care.
We can also educate your children on how to care for their teeth, so that good tooth care becomes a habit that helps them remain healthy for years to come.
Dental Care for Children and Teens
Cleanings and Exams
Patients of all ages should come in for a cleaning and exam every 6 months. We offer cleanings and exams in a calming office in Lafayette, CO.
For children and young kids, we keep treatments short. Along with the exams, we take X-rays, most often once a year. These exams are helpful for checking for cavities or other oral health issues. Catching issues early sets us up for success in treating them, no matter how small they are.
Cleanings are essential for removing plaque and tartar. During a cleaning, we reach places you cannot with your toothbrush or floss. Professional dental care prevents the development of gum disease and cavities throughout your teeth and smile.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants can be used on everyone, but they are especially helpful for protecting a child’s new adult teeth. Sealants are a material placed in the grooves of your back teeth. It hardens a few minutes after it is placed.
They protect teeth from cavities in the most common spot—the grooves on the top of your molars.
Adults often do not need sealants, as they can commit to a diet with lower amounts of sugar and practice consistent brushing with good technique.
Patient Education
Teens and children, and sometimes even adults, need reminders and education about how to care for their smiles. This is part of our focus on preventative care.
When you or a family member comes in for a visit, we will make sure to answer any questions you have about caring for your or your family’s smile. If we notice there is an area of concern, we will also give you instructions for caring for it at home or schedule a follow-up appointment if you need dental intervention.

Restorative Care for an Aging Smile
Family care means care for grandparents, parents, children, and individuals. We focus on preventing issues as you and your smile age, but the years can take a toll on your teeth’s function and appearance.
We offer implants, tooth whitening, dentures, and crowns to keep your smile beautiful and healthy throughout your life.
What is the Difference Between Family and General Dentistry?
Dr. Martin provides both family and general dentistry. General dentistry is focused on individuals and often focuses on more cosmetic and restorative needs. Family dentistry focuses on preventative care and seeing families at the same time.
Both family and general dentistry value continuity of care. Dr. Martin wants to get to know you and your oral health, making it easier than ever for you to have oral health you are proud of. Our whole team will get to know you and your family, so you can always trust that you are in good hands that know your specific oral health care needs.
Using Dental Technology at Your Family Dental Visit
You might think that using dental technology at a general or family dental visit would make the visit feel scarier or more complicated. But the opposite is actually true at our office. Our technology, from our imaging to our dental chairs, is oriented towards your comfort, no matter your age!
We use imaging technology that is fast and convenient for you. Often, it just requires you to open your mouth for a minute or rest your chin somewhere for a quick scan. We limit the amount of X-ray exposure for ultimate safety. On top of that, our scanners remove the need for uncomfortable physical impressions and can instead do it all digitally.
For those with dental fear, we offer a comfort menu, complete with a variety of complimentary dental sedation options. Dental sedation can be helpful for wiggly or anxious children, adults with disabilities or ADHD, and anyone who feels nervous about a dental visit.
