Common Cosmetic Issues Prepless and Composite Veneers Can Fix
Veneers are one of the most versatile cosmetic treatments available today. They can treat an enormous variety of cosmetic issues.
Veneers are ideal for treating large gaps in your smile, and for covering up and restoring misshapen or small teeth. They are customized to fit perfectly over your natural teeth, providing you with a brighter, more beautiful smile.
Veneers can also be used to cover up uneven or slightly crooked teeth. Your teeth will be trimmed and covered up with veneers, revealing a more aesthetically pleasing smile.
Another common cosmetic issue veneers can address is severe tooth stains. Some deep discoloration, like staining caused by antibiotic treatments, can’t be removed with teeth whitening. In this case, a prepless veneer can be used to cover up the permanently discolored tooth with a durable, porcelain material, and minimize the cosmetic appearance of the stain, all in one or two appointments.
How It Works
No-prep veneers differ slightly from traditional veneers because there is less alteration to your natural teeth. The process will start with a consultation with the dentist, where our dental team will conduct a thorough examination that will determine your current oral health and smile needs. After discussing your goals and any concerns you may have, we will create the thin porcelain shells and prep your natural teeth with little to no tooth enamel removal. This will protect your oral health and the integrity of your natural teeth.
After the veneers are placed, Dr. Martin will complete any additional shaping needed to give you a smooth, comfortable, and natural-looking fit and feel. Make sure to maintain proper dental hygiene to keep your results long-lasting.
How Do Composite Veneers Work?
Composite veneers are also minimally invasive. Instead of creating a shell that is placed on your teeth, composite bonding, which you can learn about on our bonding page, is applied directly to the tooth.
Composite veneers are completed in one appointment and don’t even require drilling or anesthesia, since we simply add things to your smile.

Benefits of No-Prep Veneers
Similar to traditional veneers, there are numerous benefits in this treatment, but no-prep veneers have specific advantages that differ from traditional veneers. Some of these key features of our no-prep veneers include:
Preservation of Natural Tooth Structure
With no-prep veneers, you do not have to worry about your oral health being affected. Our dental team can preserve your natural tooth structure while giving you stunning results.
Personalized Design
One amazing perk of veneers is the ability to create the smile you have always wanted. With stain-resistant porcelain veneers you can choose the shade of smile you want, as well as design the size and shape of each tooth.
Gentle Procedure
You will not have to experience the discomfort associated with traditional veneer preparations when no-prep veneers have minimal prep and offer a gentle treatment.
Health-Consciousness
The use of biocompatible materials ensures the longevity of your results. Our team incorporates the latest techniques and materials into the no-prep veneer services to protect your oral and overall health.
Preserving Your Teeth, Enhancing Your Smile
Minimal-prep and no-prep veneers are very thin—that’s why they fit easily over your natural teeth without looking thick or unnatural. Despite their thin construction, they are incredibly durable. It is easier and safer for the dentist to cement veneers to your tooth’s enamel than to the dentin underneath, as is done with traditional veneers. That’s because the bond to enamel is stronger—you never have to worry about your veneers coming off unexpectedly.

Caring for Veneers After Placement
One of the best things about veneers is that they do not require much extra care. Here are some tips for easy maintenance.
Maintain Oral Health
It is important to continue to brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes, twice per day. Remember to keep flossing once per day, too. If you do not care for your teeth properly, cavities could damage the enamel beneath your veneers.
Make sure that you see Dr. Martin for a checkup and teeth cleaning every six months. Doing so will ensure that your veneers are in great shape and that your mouth remains healthy.
Avoid Damaging Habits and Food
There are a few things you should avoid while wearing veneers. Both smoking and using oral tobacco will increase your risk of both cavities and tooth decay. Tobacco use will also ruin your new smile. Your veneers are stain-resistant, but the bonding material and your untreated teeth are not. If you continue using tobacco, your bright smile will be ruined. The good news is that getting veneers gives you a great reason and opportunity to quit. If you need help quitting, Dr. Martin has resources for his patients.
It is also important to avoid chewing hard foods like almonds, corn nuts, and ice with your veneers. Use your rear molars instead. These hard foods can chip or dislodge your veneers. You should also avoid chewing non-food objects like your fingernails, pens, and pencils, as this puts unnecessary strain on your veneers.
Keep Your Teeth Safe
Using your teeth as tools is another habit that can seriously damage your new smile. If you sometimes use your teeth to help you tear tape and open bags and packages, for example, this could damage or dislodge your veneer.
Protect Your New Veneers
You need to protect your mouth at night if you grind your teeth, and when playing contact sports. You can get a nightguard if you grind your teeth, which will help prevent damage to both your natural teeth and veneers. At James Martin, DMD, we also offer custom-fitted athletic mouthguards to keep your smile safe while you play your favorite sports.
Choosing a Dentist for Your Veneers and the Smile You Want
Dr. Martin focuses on creating smiles using veneers that are customized for each patient and their individual goals for their smile.
There are several characteristics of smiles he can enhance using porcelain veneers, such as making smiles look more youthful, sexy, feminine, flirty and fun, masculine, exotic, including both commercial and editorial looks.
Dr. Martin and the team at James Martin, DMD, understand how facial shape and a patient’s personality play important roles in designing a smile and how to take elements of an individual’s natural tooth shapes and enhance those characteristics so that improvements made with prepless veneers look like a patient’s own natural teeth.
